Our Community
Bonita is a charming, semi-rural community known for its natural beauty and peaceful
atmosphere. Nestled along the Sweetwater River, Bonita is characterized by rolling hills, lush open spaces, and scenic parks that create a tranquil, countryside feel—while still offering easy access to the urban conveniences of nearby San Diego. Tree-lined neighborhoods, equestrian trails, and abundant wildlife add to Bonita’s quiet elegance, making it a place where nature, community, and timeless California beauty come together.
Sweetwater Woman’s Club (SWC) has proudly served the Bonita and South Bay communities for over a century. Since 1911, we’ve supported many local charitable events, including SWC’s local high school scholarships through the Sweetwater Union High School District and partnered with small, local nonprofits to make a lasting impact in our community. Located at 3855 Sweetwater Road in Bonita, our clubhouse is rich in history and charm.
The original clubhouse, built in 1913, was lost in the 1916 flood when the Sweetwater Dam broke. In 1934, the current clubhouse was constructed in a peaceful eucalyptus grove donated by the Sweetwater Valley Fruit Company. Inside, you will find beautifully preserved features from its original design: open-beamed ceilings, a distinctive kiva-style fireplace, thick adobe-styled walls, elegant French doors and original wood floors from 1934. This rustic, inviting space is a treasured part of Bonita’s heritage. The clubhouse is managed by the members of SWC and is rented out for the community (15-22 events) per month.
